Review Week 21 / 2024

  • Review goals self.
  • Plan out week.
  • Prune fleeting notes
  • Review hand written notes.

How did you sleep this week?

Not bad, I’d say I was a little less conscious of this as a more ‘stoic’ mindset in terms of tackling work helped mask it.

How was your diet this week, did you eat enough?

Yeah, good.

How many social events did you go to?

Apart from, jiu-jitsu. None.

What influenced you this week?

negative visualisation and not being fatalist

Listening to William Irvine this morning on a podcast. I’m hoping to try the negative visualisation technique. By default, such techniques fills me with shame that I am sad when so much is good. But maybe if I remove how I should feel and think about how I actually would feel, that might help.

The unreasonable influence of our emotions on our path in life

  • Action before motivation. The sense that, the obstacle is the way. I found that work was less stressful and more enjoyable the harder I worked. The more I forced myself to do it.

It’s shocking how much your emotions in the moment dictate outcomes. I went to jiu-jitsu when I didn’t feel like it. And then, afterwards I could barely relate to that previous lack of motivation emotion.

Advice to myself

Having a list of advice for myself. Inspired by Keving Kelly. Like the following

My hope is to also focus on things for a minimum of 15 minutes today. Any task I do, must require focus for more than this amount. I’m going to use pomodoro later today as this will most likely get pretty hard for me. The hope would be staying emotionally stable all day.

Julia and neovim

I’m getting better at neovim work. While its frustrating, it can be rewarding when it works. It’s nice to gain understanding about tools as well. I’ve also been enjoying thinking about learning Julia. I’ve been flicking through learning calculus with it.

Calculus is getting boring, lets try change that

Generally, my calculus learning has been tricky. I’ve shifted more towards trying to understand how to tackle some problems more in principle than in practice.

Advice for this week.

  • Try to not leave any task in a partially finished state.
  • Focus for 15 min on something or do nothing.
